Configure embedded SAP PP/DS in S/4HANA, through to the first transferred order.
PP/DS runs in the same system as your ERP, but until the link is set up, it sees none of your materials and none of your orders. 29 short lessons to build it in the right order, one setting at a time.
- 1 The concepts: RFC, Scheduler, IDoc
- 2 The Basis settings
- 3 Activating PP/DS
- 4 The master data
- 5 Testing both ways
PP/DS is in your system, but it sees nothing.
With S/4HANA, you no longer install APO, SAP's former advanced planning tool, next to the ERP. PP/DS (Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling) is part of the system. There is still a link to set up, and that is often where things get stuck.
A CIF link that transfers nothing
Logical system, RFC destination, queues, Business System Group: one missing piece is enough for no material to ever reach PP/DS.
Steps that only work in order
A setting skipped early on does not show right away. You pay for it later, when data does not arrive and nobody knows why.
Explanations written for APO
What you find online often mixes the old APO, installed next to the ERP, with embedded PP/DS. Hard to tell which steps still apply.
This micro-training follows the path in the order you do it on the system.
Each setting is shown on screen and explained, up to the test that proves data flows both ways.
Six things you will be able to do on your system.
You are not planning production day to day yet: you get the system ready so that it becomes possible, and you prove that it works.
Explain how it works
RFC, Scheduler, IDoc and ALE: you will know what each piece is for, and why they come back on every configuration screen.
Set up the Basis settings
Logical system, RFC destination, Business System Group, queue type, system release, and registration of the QIN and QOUT Schedulers.
Activate PP/DS
Advanced planning, the data to transfer, the model and planning version, the BTE, the number range for orders and the global parameters.
Prepare the master data
Business Partner and Location, material and Product, work center and Resource, then the PDS: you know where each PP/DS object comes from.
Test both ways
An order created in the ERP that shows up in PP/DS, an order created in PP/DS that comes back to the stock/requirements list. If both get through, you have proof that the link works.
Know where to look
When an order is missing, the traps flagged at each setting tell you what to review, instead of starting from scratch.
We would rather tell you honestly who it is for, and who it is not for.
This is a configuration course. Check that it matches what you need to do before you click.
This micro-training is for you if…
- You are an SAP consultant and need to set up embedded PP/DS on an S/4HANA project.
- You are an SAP or Basis administrator, and setting up the link between the ERP and PP/DS is your job.
- You are a production key user and want to understand how your orders reach PP/DS.
- You worked with APO and want to see what changes with embedded PP/DS.
- You want to have done the configuration once, end to end, before doing it for real.
This micro-training is not for you if…
- You are new to SAP: start with SAP Starter instead.
- You want to plan production day to day (heuristics, planning board): that is not the topic here.
- You have no access to an S/4HANA test or development system: the course shows everything on screen, but no system is provided.
- You want a complete SAP path, beyond this configuration: look at the Expert Training Center instead.
Seven chapters, twenty-nine lessons, in the system's order.
Each lesson is one short video. It is followed by an illustrated text (menu paths, step-by-step screens, diagrams, tables) that sums up what matters and flags the traps, then by a three-question quiz.
The goal of this micro-training
Take you from a system where PP/DS sees nothing to a system where orders flow both ways. Day-to-day planning is not covered here.
01 Introduction 2 lessons +
02 Basics 3 lessons +
03 Basis configuration 10 lessons +
04 PP/DS configuration 6 lessons +
05 Master data configuration 5 lessons +
06 Testing the configuration 2 lessons +
07 Conclusion 1 lesson +
Three simple principles, applied to every lesson.
You watch, then you redo it
The video shows the setting on a real system. The text below goes over the paths and screens again, with the values from the video where there are any, so you can redo it on your side without scrubbing back.
The traps are written down
What breaks the link later is spelled out right when you make the setting, rather than three chapters later, once an order has already gone missing.
You check what you understood
Three questions at the end of each lesson. You know right away whether you can move on, or whether a point is worth another look.

What our learners say about Key User Training.
A leap forward in my SAP practice
Already an SAP user across several modules for a few years, the Key User Training team really helped me take a leap forward and genuinely moved my SAP practice ahead. The professionalism and availability of the trainers are their main strengths.
Structured, progressive, concrete
Key User trainings take you by the hand. They are structured, progressive and combine theory with practice through demonstrations based on concrete situations encountered every day in companies.
Five trainings, same clear structure
Five trainings already with Key User Training. It is really the same structure whatever the course: theory and practice through concrete situations. The big plus is the responsiveness, the trainers getting back to you on questions or difficulties.
A complete configuration, to come back to when you need it.
You go through the course once, end to end, then come back to it the day you set up the link on your project.
SAP PP/DS micro-training
Configure embedded PP/DS in S/4HANA, from the CIF link between the ERP and PP/DS to the first transferred order.
The concepts, the Basis settings, activating PP/DS, the master data and the test both ways, in short lessons you follow at your own pace.
14-day money-back guarantee
If the micro-training isn't right for you, just send us an email within 14 days of buying it. You get a full refund and you don't need to give a reason.
The nine questions to ask yourself before you sign up.
Do I need an SAP system to follow the course?
To watch the lessons, no: everything is shown on screen. To redo the settings, you need your own S/4HANA test or development system, with configuration rights, Basis included. No system comes with the micro-training.
What level do I need?
You should know your way around SAP and be able to open Customizing (SPRO). Some production basics (material, work center, bill of materials, routing) help for the master data chapter. Technical notions such as RFC or IDoc are explained at the start.
Does it cover APO?
No. The course is about embedded PP/DS, the one that is part of S/4HANA. The first chapter explains what changes compared with APO, installed next to the ERP, so you don't mix the two up.
How long does it take to finish?
The videos add up to 1 h 33. With the texts and the quizzes, plan for about 2 h 20, and more if you redo each setting on your system. You go at your own pace.
Is the course available in French?
Yes. This page is for the English version: videos in English with English subtitles. The French version has its own page, on the French site.
How long do I have access?
For life. You can come back to a lesson the day you need it on your project. Access covers the course content, not an SAP system.
Can I ask a question while I follow the course?
Yes, by email: just reply to the email that gives you access. This micro-training includes no live session and no one-to-one coaching.
What if the course isn't right for me?
You have a 14-day money-back guarantee, counted from the day you buy. A simple email is enough, no justification required, and we refund you in full.
Can I get an invoice for my company?
Yes. Key User Training is a training company based in Luxembourg. Just email us after you pay and we will send you an invoice in your company's name. If you need a specific reference on it (such as a purchase order number), write to us before you buy.
Do the configuration once, end to end.
From the first Basis setting to the test both ways. €29 to see it in order, and come back to it when your project needs it.
